Eugene Thomas Bowdren, Sr. (1934-2025)
Eugene (Gene) T. Bowdren, Sr., age 91, of Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and cherished friend. Gene lived a life full of purpose and joy and was a man of deep faith who dedicated his life to his family and church.
Born on February 16, 1934, to a not so ideal family, Gene ended up leaving home before he graduated from high school, to join the Army. While serving in the Army, his life was imperiled both in Korea and Germany, where he met his beloved wife Anneliese Lucksch (1928-2011) of 57 years. Together they raised 5 amazing children: Eugene T. Bowdren, Jr., Linda (Bruce) Schlaich, Becky (Bryan) Toth, Julie (Skip) Hale, and Stephen (Melissa) Bowdren. Gene found immense joy in watching his family grow up in a loving, Christian home.
Gene’s passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for fishing, camping, and traveling in his fifth wheel trailer. He spent countless weekends exploring nature’s beauty, often accompanied by family and friends. These adventures were not just hobbies for Gene; they were opportunities to create cherished memories and spend time with his family.
In the years following Anneliese’s passing, Gene was fortunate enough to marry Yvonne (Marcia) Ellis. She is a shining star in our family, and we can’t thank her enough for her dedication and devotion to Gene. Marcia joined our family with 3 wonderful children that we love dearly: David (Mary) Ellis, Robin Ellis and Teri Chrysler. Teri cared for Gene in his later years with devotion and love. Marcia is truly an angel from heaven and a gift to our family.
Gene’s life is a testament to the power of faith, family and the simple joys of life. Gene will be dearly missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and faith.
A graveside service will be held on July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Singing Hills Cemetery, El Cajon, California, followed by a celebration of life at the home of Marcia Bowdren.
