Eugene H. Degenhardt, "Gene," 84 of Norwalk, WI, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home. Gene was born May 22, 1940, to Leonard and Margaret (Schmitz) Degenhardt in Norwalk.
After graduating from high school, Gene proudly served in the United States Army. Upon completing his military service, Gene moved to Kenosha, where he began a career with American Motors. It was during this time that he met Connie Walker. The couple married and were blessed with two daughters, Sheila and Jeanine, who would become the light of Gene's life.
In 1970, Gene decided to move his family back to Norwalk. He became an integral part of the family business, Degenhardt Implement.
He was a longtime, faithful member of St. Augustine Church, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Antique Engine Club. Gene had a particular passion for International antique tractors, often saying, "if they ain't red, leave them in the shed." One of Gene's favorite pastimes was taking his family and friends on tractor rides through the countryside.
Gene is survived by Connie of Norwalk; his daughters, Sheila Vukovich of Ohio, and Jeanine (Paul) VonRuden of Cashton, WI; four grandchildren, Reese (Danica) Von Ruden, Adam VonRuden, Mackenzie Vukovich and Preston Vukovich; three great-grandchildren, Ezra Reese, Emarie VonRuden and Iris Reese; many siblings, Reuben (Shirley) Degenhardt, Susie (Bob) Zietlow, Arnie Degenhardt, Rita (Dave) Herlitzke, Gina (Pete) Pederson, Bill (Julie) Degenhardt, Glen (Gloria) Degenhardt, Donna (Jon) Campion, and Mike Degenhardt; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard "Junior" Degenhardt; sister-in-law, Suann (Thompson) Degenhardt; and two nephews, Mike and Brian Pederson.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, beginning at 1:00, at the Cashton Community Center in Cashton, WI. Family and friends are invited for lunch from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. The celebration will continue with a time for sharing stories, playing cards, and reminiscing which will continue as long as needed.
