With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eugene Gates, who left us on August 10, 2025, at the age of 62. Eugene was born on September 26, 1962 in Muskegon, MI, to John B & Maggie (Johnson) Gates and spent his life spreading kindness and support to those around him. A proud graduate of Muskegon High School, Class of 1980, Eugene was a dedicated man who worked in quality control for Molding Solutions, Inc., where he made a difference every day.
Eugene was a family man at heart. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Shauntina Gates, and his son, Ladarrius Gates. He was also a proud grandfather to Zakhi Langston-Gates, Erin Bradford, Eric Bradford, Khi'Air Bradford, Lauren Gates, London Gates, Nai'Varie Gates, Leah Gates, Lyric Gates, Laylah Gates, Liberty Gates, Loyalty Gates, Lyza Gates, and Liliana Gates. Eugene cherished every moment spent with his grandkids, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh.
He is also survived by his brothers, James, Johnny, and Delton Gates, and his sister, Beverly Willis.
Eugene was preceded in death by: his parents John B & Maggie Gates, Brothers Tracy, Lester Dennis and Larry Gates and his former spouse Vatina Langston
Eugene had a passion for life-he loved watching baseball, helping family and friends with projects, and being there to take his loved ones wherever they needed to go.
Eugene's loved ones will gather for a private celebration of his life in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider lending a helping hand to those in your community, just as Eugene always did. His spirit of kindness and generosity will live on through the love he shared with us all. Rest in peace, Eugene-you will be dearly missed.
