Mr. Eugene Steven “Steve” Hall, 85, of Dewy Rose, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at his residence.
Steve was born in Whitehall, GA on November 5, 1940. The family soon moved to Hartwell where he was raised. Steve was a 1959 graduate of Hart County High School and served his country in the United States Army. He started his career as a surveyor with Tyson and Associates, where he trained many engineering school graduates the art of surveying. Steve joined the US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Russell. He later transferred to Lake Hartwell, from which he retired as a construction representative after 30 years of service.
A devout Christian, he was a former member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon for many years. Steve later became a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton where he was instrumental in the Ramp Ministry.
He was a master woodworker who often quoted, “if it’s made out of wood, I can build it!” Steve loved building things and sharing his talents with family, friends, and strangers a like. He spent countless hours with the Ramp Ministry, using his time and talents helping make life easier for others.
Affectionately known as “Pop-Pop” to his beloved family, he leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Sara Margaret Ayers Hall; daughter, Shari H. Dye and her husband Derek of Elberton, GA; son, Greg Hall and his wife Kelly of Dewy Rose, GA; granddaughters: Emily Dye King and her husband Tony of Greenwood, SC, Suzanna Dye of Greenwood, SC, Maggie Stetson and her husband Logan of Dewy Rose, GA, and Sarah Grace Hall of Dewy Rose, GA; great-granddaughters: Madelyn King, Caroline King, Ella King, Hallson Stetson, and Henrie Stetson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Elco Steven Hall and Katie Lou Duffell Hall; and siblings: James Robert Hall and Edna Mae Hall Eaves.
A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be conducted on Sunday, February 8, at 3:00p.m. in the Sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Elberton, with the Revs. Gary Purvis and Tim Adams officiating. Members of the Ramp Team will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
A private graveside service will precede the service in the Dewy Rose Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in Steve’s memory to First Baptist Church of Elberton Ramp Ministry, 132 Heard Street, Elberton, GA 30635.
