Eugene (Gene) Fred John Huber passed away peacefully on Monday November 6th, 2023, at Farmstead Assisted Living in Moorhead.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shephard in Moorhead on Saturday November 18, 2023. Visitation 10:00 – 11:00. Funeral service will be held at 11:00, with luncheon to follow.
Gene was born on a farm near Ashley, ND on September 30, 1929, to Henry and Magdalena Huber. Gene was baptized at the Salem Reformed Church. Later, the family moved to Ashley, where Gene attended high school.
Gene joined the Airforce and served from 1953-1957. After his service to our country, and honorable discharge, Gene attended NDSU.
Gene married Elsie Seljevold on August 9, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. To this marriage, two children were born. Ann Marie and Patrick Philip. Gene and Elsie’s greatest loss was the death of Patrick at the age of 20 years old.
The majority of Gene’s work career was in the banking industry in the Fargo/Moorhead area. He was active in the local community, holding various positions with Kiwanis & Home Builders Association. Gene was also an active member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shephard. Gene was interested in a variety of sports, including bowling, fishing, hunting, and softball. His greatest love was playing racquetball at the YMCA.
Gene and Elsie loved to travel overseas and go camping with Ann and Pat in U.S and Canada. After retirement, Gene and Elsie loved spending winters in Mesa, AZ. Gene’s favorite place was spending their summers on West McDonald Lake near Dent, MN. Fishing, boating, birdwatching, spending time with friends, and playing horseshoes, were the things Gene loved to do at the lake.
Gene will be greatly missed by his wife Elsie; his daughter, Ann (Jan) Sorensen; grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Kirsten, and many other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick Huber; two brothers, James (Darlene) Huber, and Herb (Phyllis) Huber; sister, Ann; In-laws, Lillian (Johnny) Knutson, Phil (Adeline) Seljevold, Helen (Norm) Seim.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley and to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
