Eugene Joseph "Gene" Kane, 85, of Atchison, KS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Medicalodge of Atchison, KS. Gene was born June 14, 1940, in Atchison, KS, the son of John B. and Florence (Byrne) Kane, Sr. He graduated from ACCHS in 1959. Gene started working for Kansas State Grain Inspection in 1960 and retired from there in 1997. He studied hard to become the head grain inspector of the Atchison office. He was also a part time farmer and gardner. In Gene's younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed playing golf, card games, and watching sports. He loved raising a big garden every year, and for a short time raised honeybees. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Patty and seven children by playing card games, board games, croquet, sledding, etc. Gene and Patty were member of the Riverbend Baptist Church for many years. Gene married Patricia "Patty" Bechtold on June 11, 1960, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atchison, KS, she survives of the home. He is also survived by five daughters and one son, Therese` and Mike Bisnette, Topeka, KS, Ann and Dan Deal, Grand Rapids, MI, Mary and Paul Johansen, Sarah Stout, Atchison, KS, Paul and Beth Kane, Noblesville, IN, Kandi and Doug Redmond, Greenwood, IN, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Gene was preceded by his parents, his oldest son Mark Kane, and grandson Michael Stout, his eight siblings, Lorene Clemens, Doris Blankenship, Donald (Bud) Kane, John Kane Jr., Mary Lou Andre, Elvin (Skip) Kane, Margie Swendson and Patricia (Pat) Rush. Funeral service will be 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Flack officiating. Burial will follow at Sumner Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 9th, 2026, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Riverbend Bible Church or Sumner Cemetery and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.
