Eugene Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Funeral Chapel - Oskaloosa on Dec. 17, 2025.
Eugene Robert Moore II was born March 7, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Eugene Robert and Alice Dettman Moore. He went home from the hospital to his maternal grandparents' farm in Tipton, Iowa, because his father was fighting in the South Pacific during World War II. He was 28 months old when he first met his father. While growing up in Tipton, he spent as much time as possible on family farms. The majority of which was spent on his beloved uncle's, Kenneth "Bud" Schroeder's, farm. From Bud, who he considered a father figure, he developed a lifelong passion for farming. Even in his final days, he was busy selling grain from his hospital bed.
In high school, he participated in all sports and was part of student government. He graduated in 1962 from Tipton High School and attended the University of Iowa. In 1963, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Scottie Stamos, whom he had known since junior high school. He often joked, "she robbed the cradle and snatched me up when I was still in junior high". They were married for 62 years and Scottie often joked, "it was the hardest job I've ever had". He graduated in 1965 with a BA in Business and then obtained his Master of Business Administration. He graduated summa cum laud, belonging to numerous honorary societies. He passed his CPA exam in 1966 and went to work for Pete, Marwick and Mitchell in Nashville, Tennessee. He later moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, and partnered with "F.H." Blomgren. Later, he opened his own accounting practice, Moore & Associates, which later became TD&T. After leaving Moore & Associates, he became the CFO of a chain of nursing homes. In 1995, he opened Eugene R. Moore CPA, P.C. and also started his farming operation. In addition to farming, tax preparation, and spending time with his clients, his true passion was finding ways to legally keep Uncle Sam out of his clients' pockets. He loved Oskaloosa and gave selflessly of his time and talents to support the community.
He is survived by his wife, Scottie; sons Matt (Jill), Shawn (Chuck), daughter-in-law, Ruth; sister, Paula (Mark) Bender; his brothers Greg (Sherri) Moore and Gary (Pam Smith) Moore; his grandson Jack; granddaughters Ava Pickard, Kate Cordray, and Alex Cordray; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his beloved son Patrick, and grandson Nicholas.
Memorials can be made to the Oskaloosa Public Library or the Oskaloosa Peer Helpers.
As were his wishes, Eugene will be cremated. On January 9, 2026, a visitation will be held at the Bates Funeral Home from 4 pm to 7 pm. A celebration of life will be held at Bates Funeral Home on January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a fellowship luncheon to follow. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
