It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Eugene (Gene) Rico, who was 70 years old. On July 9th, he peacefully left his family, to join his heavenly family.
Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents, Robert C Rico and Beatriz Avilez. His sister Melinda Rico and his son, Brian. He is survived by his daughter MacKenzie and 1 grandchild. He also leaves behind his siblings, Frank Rico, Robert (Ginger) Rico, Cindy (Rick) Gittins, and JoAnn (Rudy) Moreno. As well as, numerous nieces, and nephews, an Uncle and Aunts plus a whole bunch of cousins.
Gene's early life in Yuma was characterized by the delightful simplicity of a close-knit family environment. Cindy fondly recalled, in the early years, that Gene and JoAnn would huddle over the TV guide on Saturday mornings, circling the cartoons they intended to watch. Gene progressed thru Yuma's school system, eventually attending Kofa High School. He began working at a young age, holding various jobs. It was his employment at Walgreen's that took him to numerous locations, including Memphis, where he had the privilege of visiting Graceland, being a big Elvis fan. He also enjoyed his time in Florida. Eventually, he returned to Yuma to be closer to family. Gene cherished spending quality time at home with his Mom. You often found him enjoying a beer and watching his favorite baseball team, New York Yankees. He also enjoyed golfing with his family, although one cousin humorously remarked that while he may not have been the most skilled golfer, he always dressed perfectly on the course.
Rest peacefully, dear brother. Your laughter, your love, and your kindness will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Though you may be gone from this world, your spirit will forever shine brightly in our memories. In the realm of our hearts, you shall forever reside.
His services are schedule for August 2, 10 AM at Yuma Mortuary. Rosary will start at 10:30 AM, followed by scripture readings at 11:00 AM. A celebration life will follow at Eagles Hall after the service.
