Gene joined Central State Bank, now BMO Harris Bank, in August 1949 as a bookkeeper, and moved through the ranks to Vice-President. He also managed the bank's Chili branch from 1953 to 1956. He earned the Basic and Standard Certificates from the American Institute of Banking, the educational branch of the American Bankers Association. He was a past president of the Wood County Bankers Association. Gene retired from the bank on July 1, 1992, after 43 years. He always said, "My greatest satisfaction working at the bank came from helping my many customers over the years."
Gene was devoted to his wife, Arline, his family, and his strong Catholic faith and thanked God every day for the privilege of being able to practice his faith daily. He attended daily Mass for over 70 years.
He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1799. Gene was Council Financial Secretary from 1957 to 1978, K of C Bowling League Secretary for 16 years and a Director on the state KC Bowling Committee for 4 years.
