He joined the US Air Force in 1955. He was stationed in Sembach, Germany, Spangdahlem, Germany. Then he was reassigned to Clovis, New Mexico Air Force Base and Indian Mt. Air Force Base in Alaska. After a decorated military career, he retired in 1975 as a Tech Sargent. He was a lifetime member of the NCOA.
Eugene family included mother Madeline (Eldridge) Thurston; father Parker Thurston; sister Fraces Harman; wife Elisa (Hoffman); son Harry Thurston.
A graveside service will be held at the Chickville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
