Eugene Donald Wilhelm Sr.

Eugene Donald Wilhelm Sr., 84, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away on November 17, 2025. Born on February 12, 1941 in New England, North Dakota, he was a devoted husband to Joan and a loving father to Gene, Mike, and Tony.

Eugene ("Willy") was hard working and dedicated, joining the United States Navy and proudly serving his country after leaving his hometown and earning a BS degree from the University of Maryland. After retiring from the Navy in 1980 with expertise in computer science, Willy embarked on his second successful career, working in the private sector as a senior executive in software engineering.

While stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, Willy met the love of his life, Joan, and they were married on September 7, 1963.

Willy's interests helped define who he was, including restoring old "muscle cars" from the ground up. Willy was also an exceptional boxer during his Navy career.

Willy is survived by his wife, Joan, three sons, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. We find comfort in knowing that Willy's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Chesapeake Chapel, located at 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23322. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and offer condolences at www.altmeyerfh.com
