Eugene Ray Wolfe, 84, of Ponchatoula, passed away on December 25, 2024 from natural causes. Eugene, also known as Buddy, was born on December 23, 1940 to Myrtle Wolfe and John Wolfe, Sr. in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. At just 15 years old, he became one of the founding members of "The Rocks" band. A skilled bassist, he often played at the Cave Tangi, even having the honor of backing up Irma Thomas and Percy Sledge once. He later played at other local venues until he was 80 years old. After graduating Ponchatoula High School, he served in the National Guard for 6 years and went on to work as a master carpenter for Boh Bros. Construction for 32 years, contributing to the building of many bridges and structures in the New Orleans area, including the Twin Span, the Mississippi River Bridge, the Morial Convention Center, and the 1984 World's Fair Gondola. In high school, he met Lottie Bea Coumes and after eventually gathering enough courage to ask her on a date, they went on to be married for almost 62 years and have 2 daughters, Melissa and Tiffany. He was a dedicated family man who cherished his loved ones. He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Carpenters Local #1846. Upon retiring, he continued work as a carpenter, crafting beautiful furniture, swings, a grandfather clock, and even a cypress crib for his first grandchild.
Eugene was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother John Wolfe, II (Brenda). He is survived by his wife Lottie, daughters Melissa (Randy Landry) and Tiffany (Mark LaMonica), grandchildren Hunter, Ashten (Matthew) and Luke, great-grandsons Bennett and Hawthorne, brother Weaver (Dianne), sister Jan (Mark Cave), and many nieces and nephews. His music and woodworking legacy will live on forever in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations please be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 707 W Dakota St, Hammond, LA 70401.
