Eugene Karl Zimmermann, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in
Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 65.
Born on April 17, 1960, in
Springfield, Massachusetts, Eugene was the cherished son of Karl and Barbara Zimmermann.
Eugene leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Zimmermann, who he supported in her consulting and holistic health businesses. Together, they exemplified a partnership grounded in love, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to helping others. Eugene was the proud father of five children: David Zimmermann, Rachel Ramirez, Eric Zimmermann, Jon Lau, and Diana Lau. He found immense joy in being a grandfather to Gerardo, Agustin, and Rhye, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. Eugene is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Fellows, and his two nieces, Molly Spatcher and Maggie Fellows.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Barbara Zimmermann.
A passionate lifelong learner, Eugene earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University, a master's degree in chemistry from Colorado State University, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Technology Management from Rutgers University. He had a distinguished career in the foam and plastics industry, serving as Business Director at BASF and Vice President of Consumer Products at Colorite Plastics Company. His most recent role as Technical Director for the EPS Industry Alliance allowed him to make significant contributions to the industry he loved. Colleagues fondly recall his intellect, curiosity, and creativity displayed in his work and service of others. Through his time with the trade association, Eugene was able to dispense his knowledge and expertise by staying on the leading edge of research and technology. His work and legacy will allow this work to continue.
Outside of work, Eugene was deeply involved in the Marked Men for Christ Ministry, serving as a Regional P3 Manager in New Jersey. He was a man of integrity and kindness, always eager to learn and grow. His quiet reflection and thoughtful writing inspired those around him, and he was known for being a steady, trustworthy friend and colleague.
Eugene had a wide range of interests, from practicing martial arts with his son, David, to enjoying years of CrossFit. He showcased his carpentry skills by crafting furniture for his family and spent memorable times fishing in Arctic and Canadian waters.
A memorial service will take place on January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Renovation Church in Simpsonville, where everyone is invited to celebrate Eugene's life and legacy of love, integrity, and kindness.
