Eura Compton Lester

Mrs. Eura Jackson Compton Lester, age 88, of the Drill section of Honaker, Virginia passed away Saturday (December 28, 2024) at her home after a battle with cancer. Born February 8, 1936 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Eli and Mary Jackson. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1954 graduate of Honaker High School. She was a member of Gent's Chapel Church and before her health declined, she attended Valley View Church. She enjoyed sewing, canning, and camping, but most of all spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Sid Compton; grandson, Zachary Prater-Pursifull; brothers, Charles Worley Jackson, Roy Jackson, Roby Jackson, Bob Jackson, Gene Jackson and one infant brother; and sisters, Monnie Wilson, Roberta Hale, Lola Crouse, Emma Barton, and one infant sister. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Lester; daughter, Janie Thomas and husband, Gary; son, Allen Compton and wife, Susan; one granddaughter, Whitney Compton; step-children, which became her children at heart, Larry Lester and wife, Trish, Mike Lester and wife, Connie, Barbara Monk and husband, Jamie, and Douglas Lester, Jr. and wife, Sharon; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Compton; special friends and caregiver, Contessa Osborne and husband, John; special neighbor, Ed Osborne; eight step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in the Compton Cemetery at Drill, Virginia with Rev. Wayne Harrison and Rev. Kenny Taylor officiating.
Pallbearers will be her step-sons, John Osborne, and Ed Osborne.
Per Eura's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Gent's Chapel Church or Valley View Church.
