QUINCY, Ill. - Eva Lois D. (Dalton) Adele, 97, of Quincy, formerly of Sauget, born March 21, 1927, in Dycusburg, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy.
Eva attended the Draughon's Business School in Paducah, Kentucky, after graduating from high school and was a bookkeeper for most of her life. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the church choir. Eva was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for more than 79 years and was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Her greatest hobbies were sewing and quilting. After marrying Homer in 1969, they shared a love of camping and traveling to visit family. Following their retirement, Homer and Eva became Florida Snowbirds, until they moved into the Veterans' Home in 2008.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Adele; two sons, David A. and Keith E. Adele; her parents, Lawrence A. and Lillian E. (Travis) Dalton; a sister, Kathryn C. Howe; sister-in-law, Marie Dalton; grandchildren, Erica Adele, Michelle Rinehart, nee Adele (and her son, Daniel), Michael A. Adele, and Jeffrey Nickels.
Surviving are her daughters, Cathy (Gary) Pugh, Lindy (Lindsey Liefer) Graves, and Betty (Bethea) Adele; a brother, Marvin A. Dalton, nieces, Julie (Jim) McSorley and Jianna (Ed) Dalton-Peery; nephews, Jeffrey (Brenda) Howe and Timothy (Pat Allin) Howe; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy.
Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 7, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia. An Eastern Star Service was held at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. James Schuetz officiated. Burial followed in St. Joseph/Holy Family Cemetery, Dupo.
