Eva Eakes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services - Parkville on Jan. 13, 2026.
Grandma Eva loved to admire the buttercups in her yard. Eva was a treasure to everyone who knew her. She was intelligent, caring, witty, and artistic. She was a faithful woman and a true patriot.
Eva was the devoted wife of the late William Preston Eakes Sr., and the loving mother of Shari and husband John, Preston, Sandy and husband Michael, Cindy and husband John, and Howard and wife Diane. She was the dedicated grandmother of Daniel, Shane and wife Katie, Sadie, Tess, John and wife Leah, Elizabeth, Will, and Julia, and the great-grandmother of Shane, Cody, Tessie Lou, and Roman. She was the lifelong best friend of Patsy and Peggy; they called themselves the PEP girls. Eva was born and raised in Baltimore City, where she earned her high school diploma from the Institute of Notre Dame. She later moved to Harford County with her husband and five children, so that her daughter Sandy could have the pony she was promised after receiving good grades.
Eva worked for the United States Census Bureau, and Hecht company in Bel Air. She received her Associate's degree from Harford Community College, and attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts after discovering a love of painting.
Eva was an active member of the Harford Region Antique Automobile Club of America, the Moving On group, and the Guppies swimming group. She was a parishioner at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church. Eva enjoyed going on walks with her late husband Bill and their dog, Zeke. Eva also loved camping, travel, gardening, reading the newspaper, being a grandma, and calling in her votes for America's Got Talent and Dancing with the Stars.
Eva was known to share the advice she'd learned from her grandmother: "Need a helping hand? Look at the end of your arm." While she modeled for her children and grandchildren how to be independent and hard-working, she was also a constant helping hand, listening ear, and loving heart for her friends and family. She will be remembered for her wisdom, her curiosity, her steadfastness, and her positive attitude.
Eva's funeral service and inurnment will take place at 10 AM on Saturday, January 17th, at St. Mary's of the Assumption, with lunch to follow in the church hall. Address: 1021 Pylesville Rd, Pylesville, MD. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to St. Mary's or the charity of your choice To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Eva, please visit our floral store.

I had the pleasure of picking Eva up and driving her to many appointments and Moving On events. I knew I could always count on a lively discussion about some topic that would include her quips of wisdom...like your helping hand being at the end of your arm, lol. There was never a holiday that I didn't receive a beautiful e-card in my email. I will miss this.
