Eva S. Kallio, born on December 23, 1925, in Lehtimaki, Finland, gracefully departed this life on August 28, 2025, in Mentor, Ohio. As a cherished matriarch, she leaves a legacy steeped in love, joy, and unwavering faith.
Eva, known for her indomitable spirit, was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, where she found solace and community. Her melodious voice enriched the Finnish Choir, a testament to her deep appreciation for music and culture. Her interests were vast, but her devotion to family and congregation was paramount. She loved fishing and avidly fished for walleye, muskie and perch. One of her greatest joys was family fishing trips to Canada over the years.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Alpo Kallio (Diane) of Townsend, Massachusetts and Robert Kallio (Amy) of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Her family further expanded with grandchildren Renee Kallio, Jennifer Kallio, Erika Kallio, and Nicolas Kallio, along with great-grandchildren Declan and Evelyn Lopez, who were a source of immense pride and joy in her later years. Additionally, she held a special place in her heart for her goddaughters, Maria (Pentilla) Nelson and Ritva Kivimaki of Finland, who exemplified the love and generosity that Eva imparted throughout her life.
Eva now reunites with her beloved parents, Vihtori and Hilma Panula, her husband of 71 years Arne J. Kallio. her sister Elma Altupa, and her brothers Arvo, Toivo, Kallie, and Eino, whose presence remains a gentle reminder of the bonds woven through generations.
Visitation will be held at Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, on September 5, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating her remarkable life will take place at Zion Lutheran Church on September 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
In the tapestry of life, Eva S. Kallio has left an indelible mark, her legacy echoing in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered, her spirit living on in the stories shared and the love given.
