Eva Mae Blackwell Mattox, 88, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Oceana, passed away Monday evening, December 4, 2023, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born October 18, 1935, at Helen, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Gladys Mann Blackwell.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Mason Griffith, her second husband, Irvin Massey, an infant daughter and three sisters, Retha (Eugene) Hedgecock, Nellie (Henry) McGhee and Joyce (George) Ballard.
Eva was a 1953 graduate of Trap Hill High School. She was youth director at Oceana First Church of God for several years. She touched many lives through her hard work and devotion.
A devout Christian, Eva was a kind-hearted and generous lady who cared deeply for others, and she was loved by all who knew her.
She was a member of the Midway First Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Robert Mattox; two devoted daughters, Jenny (Terry) Phillips of Sevierville, TN and Lisa (Brad) Stewart of Goose Creek, SC; two precious grandchildren, Maddie and Mason Stewart, both of Goose Creek, SC; a sister, Wanda (the late Bob) Archer of Easton, MD; three brothers, Robert (Sally) Blackwell of Lakeland, FL; John (Judy) Blackwell of Beckley; and Sam of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Walker and Pastor Vondie Cook, II officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Terry Phillips, Chad Gregory, Tim McGhee, Scott Blackwell, Mason Stewart, Brad Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House at 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.
