Eva Alicia (Nieves) Mead, 94, of La Plata, MD formerly of Ft. Washington, MD passed away on October 25, 2025 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, MD.
Eva was born on August 10, 1931 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Juanita (Arroyo) and Generoso Nieves.
Eva moved to the United States in 1959. She had a Bachelor's Degree and worked as a pharmacist. She spent most of her career at Dart Drug until the chain was bought out, in which she continued her work at other drug stores until her retirement. Eva met the love of her life, John Leo Mead in 1959 and the two married in 1960. The union was blessed with four boys. The Mead family lived in Ft. Washington from 1963 to 2018. At the time of her retirement from the pharmacy, she went on to help run the family business, Mead's Liquor which she took over when her husband passed away in 1988. Eva loved her family and cherished the memories of her time spent in Puerto Rico.
In addition to her parents, Eva is preceded in death by her husband, John Leo Mead; brothers; Tito Nieves, and Rafael Nieves; sisters; Carmen Gorbea, Edna Nieves, and Maria Elsie Bartolomei.
Eva is survived by her sons; John Edward Mead and his significant other Carolyn Myers, Michael Thomas Mead, Gary Matthew Mead and his wife Leanne Mead, and Robert Leo Mead and his wife Tonya Mead; grandchildren; John Richard Mead, Justin Evan Mead, Jacob Matthew Mead, Breanne Michelle Mead, and Gage Adam Quill Mead; great-grandchildren; Sophia Mead, Evan Mead, Bailey Mead, and Kelci Mead; and sister; Luz Nieves.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 9:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13405 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD. Followed by Repass at 1 PM at the VFW Post 9619, 6527 Suitland Road, Morningside, Maryland 20746.
