Eva Mae Murray

 

Mrs. Eva Mae Blanton Murray (Granny), age 105, of Surrency, GA entered her heavenly home on September 30, 2023, while residing at the Lakeview Assisted Living Home in Baxley under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice.

 

Mrs. Murray was born December 22, 1917, in Pierce County, Georgia to the late Emory Newton Blanton and Lennie Smith Blanton. On November 22, 1938, Eva Mae Blanton married the love of her life, Russell Lowell Murray. Together they shared six children of their own and took in many other family members along the way. Work was not a stranger to Mrs. Murray. She talked often about her days spent working in the fields growing up and after her marriage working along beside her beloved and cherished husband. Mrs. Murray was a homemaker, farmer, seamstress, and an amazing cook. She enjoyed cooking for church events, elderly friends, and neighbors as well as her grandchildren. She was an avid seamstress, sewing for many people in Appling County and surrounding counties. Quilting all her life, her legacy will continue to live on through the quilts she gifted her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Murray was always full of energy and one of her greatest joys was doing for others. She was a faithful member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, a true servant of God.

 

Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Lowell Murray; two sons, Paul Gervett Murray and Emory Floyd Murray (Emmy); three sisters, Vida Belle Brown, Pauline Tyre, and Eveline Lightsey.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Laverne M. Eason (James) of Surrency, GA and Martha M. Murphy of Franklin, TN; two sons, Russell Norman Murray (Becky) of Baxley, GA and Richard Lowell Murray (Bonnie) of Surrency, GA; one honorary son, Willie Floyd Murray (Jackie) of Jesup, GA; Ten grandchildren, Jeffrey Paul Murray (Shelia) of Kountze, TX, Joe Travis Murray of Surrency, GA, Janet Eason Carter (Stephen) of Surrency, GA, James Earl Eason of Surrency, GA, Lucretia Murphy Presley (Greg) of Franklin, TN, Melissa Murphy Beck (Brian Osborne) of Columbia, TN, Karrie Murray Carter (Tony) of Baxley, GA, Russell Brian Murray (Rhonda) of Bonaire, GA, Charles David Barber (Misty) of Baxley, GA, Michelle Murray Brown (Charles) of McRae, GA; 31 great grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren, and one great- great-great grandchild, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. from Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Thomas Kelly, Reverend Rick Brown, Reverend David Barber, and Reverend Wayne Williamson officiating. A tribute to Mrs. Murray’s life will be given by a great-granddaughter.

 

Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

 

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. from Nobles Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

 

Honorary Pallbearers are Paschol and Mary Ruth Pearce, James Pearce, Dennis Lamb, Zand Murphy, Linton Deloach, and Gregg Kicklighter, a special niece Melanie Griffin, staff of Lakeview Assisted Living Center, staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice, and the staff of Appling Pavilion.
