Eva Pratt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on October 27, 2025, at the age of 101 at the Bridge Assisted Living in Longmont, Colorado.
She was born on April 8, 1924, in Swinemünde, Germany, where she spent her early years before the events of World War II altered the course of her life. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with the man who would become her husband, American Army officer Wayne Orton Pratt.
In 1947, following their wedding, Eva moved to the United States with Wayne. They eventually settled in Southern California, where they built a beautiful life together. They adopted their son, Dale, in 1960, and their daughter, Evelyn, in 1965. Eva and Wayne enjoyed nearly 60 years of devoted marriage until Wayne's passing in 2007. Several years later, Eva found companionship once again with D.C. "Corkey" Hullum, who remained her loyal partner and dear friend for the rest of her life.
During her long and active life, Eva embraced every day with energy and purpose. An avid gardener, she became an enthusiastic member of the Begonia Society, the Bonsai Club, and the Orchid Society after she and Wayne moved to a rural part of
Camarillo, California, in retirement. Her home and extensive garden were filled with vibrant plants-among them a greenhouse overflowing with orchids and her prize-winning begonias-and enlivened by the chatter of the many exotic birds she lovingly bred, including Lovebirds, Australian parakeets and several varieties of wild finches raised in the aviaries Wayne built for her.
Eva's talents extended well beyond the garden. She was an avid seamstress, a skilled baker, and an expert canner. Even into her late nineties, she enjoyed baking cookies or preparing jars of homemade jam from fruit she grew herself. She was also a huge dog lover and owned and loved several dogs throughout her life.
Though petite in stature, Eva possessed an unmistakable spirit. Those who knew her understood that she was always in motion-tending to her garden, caring for her dogs, or delivering a fresh batch of cookies or jars of jam to someone who needed a little brightness in their day. Her generosity, resilience, and boundless energy touched everyone around her.
Eva is survived by her partner, Corkey; her children, Dale (Shari) Pratt and Evelyn (Rick) Bailey; her grandchildren; Connor, Jeff and Krystal, and Corkey's children, Laurie, Marylynn, David and Danny who became family to her in every meaningful way.
She will be deeply missed.
