Evelyn Drexel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP - Pine Avenue Branch on Feb. 27, 2026.
Evelyn Drexel, 95, was born in New York, New York on September 5, 1930 and passed away on February 22, 2026.

Faithful and loyal wife of nearly 72 years to William Drexel. Devoted mother of three sons, William (Gerrilyn), Raymond (Dorothy), Edward (Cornelia), and one daughter, Diane (Henry). Caring grandmother of Raymond (Laura), Benjamin (Christine), Carrie Ann (Michael), Alicia (Michael), Lynette, Billy Jack (Rachel), and Bobby (Dina). Beloved great-grandmother of Benjamin, Clara, Nathan, Lila, Evelyn, Samuel, Joel, Jaxson, Zachary, and Melody. Evelyn is also survived by her niece, Susan, and nephew, Robert, and their families, as well as several cousins in Germany.

Evelyn's great-granddaughter, Melody, the newest member of our family, was born into this world on the same day that Evelyn departed this world. Only God could have arranged something as beautiful as this for our family. This is truly a divine manifestation of His Love and Grace. This is also so typical of Evelyn. She would never want anyone in her family to be sad and upset for too long. She always tried to bring happiness, joy, and peace.

Evelyn lived in New York for most of her life. She was an only child. Evelyn's father, Karl Oehler, passed away when she was just 16 years old, which was a challenging time for her and her mother, Frieda. Evelyn worked part-time jobs after school and gave her earnings to her mother to help pay for their food and rent. Evelyn graduated from Julia Richman High School, which was an all-girls school.

On May 30, 1954, Evelyn married her husband, William, and moved to Jackson Heights, NY where they raised their four children. After living in New York for over 70 years, Evelyn and Willy relocated to Erie, PA in November 2004 to be closer to their daughter, Diane, and her husband, Henry. Evelyn was a lifelong faithful member of the New Apostolic Church and for decades supported her husband during his active Priestly ministry by serving together with him in many different congregations comprised of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Most of all, Evelyn was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and dedicated her life to providing all her support and help to everyone in her family.

Our family would like to thank all our friends and loved ones for their prayers, thoughts, and loving support during this time. We also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, aides, housekeepers, and dietary staff of Sarah Reed Senior Living for their care given to our mother, as well as the staff from Interim Hospice, and also many thanks for the healthcare items and equipment provided by generous donors in our community through Chosen.

Our family will receive friends at Sarah Reed Senior Living, 227 West 22nd Street, Erie, PA on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m.
