Evelyn (Presby) Elliott also called Dadie, by siblings.
"I am ready for the Lord to take me to be with Dad again." These were words often spoken by Evelyn (Presby) Elliott, a woman whose life beautifully exemplified the enduring power of family and an unshakeable faith. Embracing her beliefs without fear, Evelyn peacefully joined her beloved Bernard on April 17, 2025, in Biddeford, following a sudden medical event. She lived a rich and meaningful life of 94 years, her heart always full of love for her family, her church, and her cherished husband, who preceded her in death.
She was born in Miami, FL and raised in Ocean Park. Evelyn spent her formative years in the family home lovingly built by her father. Growing up as one of only two girls among six brothers instilled in her a remarkable strength of will and an independent spirit. It was often said that Evelyn could "handle her own," a spirited trait perhaps honed during her surprising venture into judo classes. She proudly graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1948, where her voice added harmony to the school's glee club. Later, she deepened her spiritual foundation by attending Zion Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island.
Evelyn's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Initially a devoted member of the Methodist church and its choir, she later embraced the Protestant faith, finding a profound sense of belonging and purpose. It was within this community of faith that she met the love of her life, Bernard Elliott. They married on April 11, 1952 in Old Orchard Beach, ME with white lilies in every window. This day marked the beginning of a remarkable partnership built on deep love, devotion, and a shared commitment to their community and their religion. Together, they nurtured not only their growing family of five children but also their shared spiritual calling.
They lived a minimalist life, giving to others. With selfless devotion, Evelyn and Bernard poured their energy into establishing and strengthening seven different churches throughout their years together, leaving an indelible legacy of faith and service within their communities. Evelyn's beautiful voice continued to be a gift to many, as she enthusiastically led song services and capably managed the churches where her husband pastored.
Evelyn and Bernard shared a tender affection for animals and held an immeasurable love for their grandchildren. They were always ready to lend a helping hand, and the boundless love and support they showered upon their grandchildren created cherished memories that will forever live on in their hearts.
Evelyn was the last surviving of her siblings. In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by three of her children: Tom Elliott, David Elliott, and Mark Elliott, as well as her grandson, Wayne Elliott Jr. She is lovingly survived by her son, Wayne Elliott; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Elliott; her daughter, Judie Couture; her son-in-law, Ron Couture; daughter-in-law, Holly Elliott, and numerous adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever hold her memory close. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her.
A wake to celebrate Evelyn's life and her profound impact on those around her will be held at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005 on April 22, 2025 from 4 PM to 7 PM. A private service and burial will occur at a later date for immediate family only.
