Evelyn Meints

May 27, 1934 - October 11, 2024

Evelyn E. Meints, 90, of Beatrice passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Beatrice. She was born May 27, 1934, to Harm and Sophia (Caspers) Jurgens. She married Vernon Meints on May 24, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pickrell and they lived and farmed northeast of Beatrice. She and Vernon were the custodians of the Eagles Club for many years. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church serving on park board, belonged to Grace Circle and she and Vernon were Luther League sponsors. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, mowing, canning, helping Vernon on the farm and most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy (Steve) Johnson of Beatrice, Janie (Chris) Vrtiska of Eagle, Nancy (LeRoy) Stumme of Kearney; son, Neal (Barbie) Meints of Beatrice; eight grandchildren, Josh (Andrea) Johnson, Jaimie (Jeremy) Sutter, Jerod (Cally) Ideus, Jaci Ideus and Rita Machado, Cassie (Kurt) Boyer, Lexi (Ryan) Zinnel, Zac (Britan) Meints and Ben Meints; step-grandson, Michael Stumme; 10 great-grandchildren, Garrett and Mason ldeus, Jack and Evelyn Boyer, Nixon Zinnel, and McKendrick and Marlowe Sutter, Sophia Johnson, Burke and Kit Meints; four step-great grandchildren, Dalton, Quintin and Colin Hartig, and Jordan Stumme; sisters-in-law, Vermina Albers of Phoenix, AZ, Alice Meints of Beatrice; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Meints (2016); brother, Harvey (Wiona) Jurgens; sister, Elsie (Henry) Zimmerman; brothers-in-law, Frederick Meints, Kenneth Albers, sister-in-law, Viola (Roy) Harms.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pickrell with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pickrell. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Monday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Zion Lutheran Church, Pickrell. www.foxfuneralhome.net Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice.

So sorry to hear of her passing. I remember Evelyn being so much fun. She had a great sense of humor. She was like a "mom" to everyone. Prayers and hugs to Nancy and the rest of the family.
