Evelyn Mountain

Evelyn M. Mountain, 99, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 6th, 2025.

She was born in Dexter on February 18th, 1926, to parents Freeman and Denise (Dyer) Mountain. Evelyn attended school in Dexter and graduated from N.H. Fay High School in the class of 1944. After graduation she left for Boston where she attended and graduated from Fisher College.

She started her career with Mutual of Omaha, and eight years later she decided to head for warmer climates and spent one year in Florida. In 1955 she came back to New England and worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in the communications department. She retired in September 1987. Evelyn traveled all over Europe and the United States- including Hawaii, but her favorite place was Paris, France. In 2011, she moved to Dexter from Vernon, Connecticut.

Evelyn loved her family dearly and always enjoyed shopping for and being with everyone on holidays and other special occasions. She always enjoyed the trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun with family and friends, and after moving back to Maine always looked forward to going to Hollywood Casino in Bangor or a night out at Bingo. She also loved the Boston Red Sox and doing puzzles with family and friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by her brother Galen Mountain of Dexter, sister Beverly Clukey of Dexter, sister Alderia "Dearie" Bailey of Dexter, and brother Roger Mountain of Melbourne, Florida.

She is survived by her nephew David Bailey and his wife Norma of Dexter, nephew Stephen Bailey and his wife Pamela of Dexter, and niece Cheryl Smith and her partner Frank Rego of Melbourne, Florida. Evelyn was greatly loved, and she will be sadly missed by her many great nieces and nephews and their families.

There will be a graveside service at a future date set by the family at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
