Evelyn H. Schmeling

Evelyn (Heldt) Schmeling of Robbinsdale, MN, answered the call of her Lord Jesus to her heavenly home on Monday, May 5, 2025. She was born to Herman and Minnie (Sieg) Heldt of Butterfield, MN, on April 21, 1928, at her home in Butterfield. She was baptized as a child of God soon after birth at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Butterfield, MN, by Pastor E. Schmelzer. She was confirmed in that very faith on May 24, 1940, by Pastor Lester Shirenbeck. Her confirmation passage was Rev. 2:10, "Be faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life."
Evelyn chose a partner for herself in Christian life and service. She married Arlyn L. Schmeling on May 13, 1950, at St. Paul's Lutheran of St. James, MN. The Lord blessed that marriage with 7 children.
She is survived by her children: Angela (Darv) Klatt, Becky (David) Klatt, Marian (Gaius) Wiechmann, Rev. James (Martha) Schmeling, Rev. Steve (Paula) Schmeling; daughter-in-law Beth Schmeling; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Laverna Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arlyn; two children: daughter Ruth and son Rev. Paul; her parents; her sisters: Gertrude, Lydia, Elsie, Melrose and Minne; and brothers: Richard, Harold, Herman, and Wallace.
She enjoyed serving musically, socially, and in the offices of her husband's churches in Fort Madison, IA; Lena, Oconto Falls, Spruce, and Two Rivers, WI; Torrance, CA; Springfield, MO; Columbus, MS; and Roseville, MI. Great blessings in ministry were to start a school in Torrance, CA, and to start four churches: Maumee, OH; Alexandria, LA; Scottsbluff, NE; and Little Rock, AR. Each church was a blessing with outreach participation of the members from each city.
Job tells us, "I know that my redeemer lives, and in the end he will stand upon the earth." We pray that you know this redeemer. He will uphold you, even in loss, and give strength in his word.
Memorials are suggested to WELS High Schools, Colleges, and WELS missions.
Interment St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Menominee, WI
Service Friday 5/9 at 11:00am with visitation 1 hour prior and reception to follow service at Trinity Lutheran Church 4240 Gettysburg Ave N. New Hope, MN 55428
