"Arise, shine: for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you." Isaiah 60:1
On Sunday January 15, 2023, Evelyn Mae Lee Spellings (99) born November 30, 1923, in Johnston City, Illinois stepped into heaven in the presence of her Savior. Evelyn was from a family of 7 boys and 3 girls of which she was the next to the youngest. Her and her husband Tom were active members of Southwest Baptist Church in St. Louis from 1951 till they retired in 1979. After moving, her faith and love for the Lord were grounded in First Baptist Church of Florence, where she quickly joined the Sunny Senior Choir using her beautiful voice for the Lord and became a kindergarten teacher for 4 years while kindergarten was in our church. Her love for children extended into Sunday school where she assisted her daughter for more than 10 years in teaching in the pre-school department. She was also very active in Diamarizo at her church. She loved her church, and she loved the Lord.
Evelyn was a very precise organized person who always made sure things were done right or done over. She loved needlework when she was able to do it. She loved participating in activities at her church and always was so proud of her grandchildren, their spouses, and her great grandchildren and spouse. She was clear of thought until just a week before she passed and could remember names of just about everyone.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Cooper (Forrest Cooper); Grandson, Tim Cooper (Tara); Great grandchildren (Simon, Anniston, Elijah); Grandson Scott Cooper (Marsha); Great grand children
(Jackson, Maggie, Mallory). And numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday January 18 from 5:00-7:00 at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence. Celebration of Life service at First Baptist Church Thursday, January 19- viewing 10:00 service to begin at 11:00 with burial following at Florence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the "Food Pantry" at First Baptist Florence.
Special thanks to Villa South for all the kindness shown mom during her stay there. It never went unappreciated.
Mom loved the song which ends: We'll say good-night here, but good-morning up there - No sadness here because mom up there.
