Evelyn Joyce Rabe Steckly went to her heavenly home peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Abilene Texas.
Memorial services will be held 10:00am on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church at. 1202 S Pioneer Dr, Abilene, TX. Burial will be at the San Jose Burial Park, 8235 Mission Rd, San Antonio, TX 78214.at a later date. Arrangements are with The Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Abilene, TX.
Evelyn was the second child born to Adam Conrad and Estella Willmann Rabe on November 23, 1935, in Kingsbury, Texas. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas and raised her family there. Later she moved to Mesquite, Texas to follow her career. In retirement, she relocated to Abilene, Texas to be closer to family where she spent the remainder of her life. Evelyn was a lifelong Christian actively writing and publishing devotions and short stories, leading Bible studies, assisting with church administration and library management. Most recently she was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, Abilene, Texas.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents Adam and Estella Rabe and her son Mark Steckly. She is survived by her children Dennis Steckly (Suzie); Denise Caudle (Jon); and Roger Steckly (Dan); grandchildren Matthew Caudle (Nicole); Russell Caudle; Samuel Steckly (Jessica); and Benjamin Steckly (Matthew); great-grandchildren Emma Caudle; Wyatt Caudle; Hannah Steckly; and Abigail Steckly; her brother Melvin Rabe (Norma) and niece Gigi Rabe.
Known for her courage in difficult times, quiet strength and thoughtful wisdom, Evelyn found great joy in life's uncomplicated pleasures of sharing a meal and time with family, reading, playing cards with friends and traveling. Evelyn's warm heart and kind soul are just a few of the many memories that have had a lasting impact on those blessed to have known her.
Our Mama, Mom, Mamaw, Sis, Aunt Evelyn, Neighbor and Faithful Friend will be profoundly missed and remembered with grateful hearts.
