Evelyn R Thacker

Evelyn R. (Ellis) Thacker, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Monticello Healthcare. She was born on January 6, 1935 in Rensselaer to the late Jesse and Grace (Robertson) Ellis.

Evelyn was a graduate of Rensselaer High School. She then pursued a career as a Nursing Assistant, and worked for 33 years at Home Hospital before retiring in 2007. In her free time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, word searches, playing solitaire, and gardening.

Evelyn was married to Charles A. Thacker on March 18, 1954 in Rensselaer. They were married for 30 years, and divorced in 1985. Charles preceded Evelyn in passing in 2013.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Dean (Crystal) Thacker, Debra (David) Miteff, and Linda (Darry) Tripp; and brother, Eugene (Peg) Ellis. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, Randall Thacker; sisters, Martha Jones, Dorothy Salyers-Hunt, Rosa Darner, Doris Alexander, and Eileen Porters; and brothers, Francis Ellis, William "Buster" Ellis, Calvin Ellis, and Donald Ellis.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30th from 2:30-3:30 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Service at 3:30 with Pastor Eddie Robinson officiating. Evelyn will then be laid to rest at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to Star City Church (201 Veterans Memorial Pkwy E, Lafayette, IN 47905).
