Everett Clifton Smith Jr., affectionately known as Cliff, was born on September 20, 1938, and peacefully passed away on November 7, 2024. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Cliff's life was a testament to love, hard work, and a passion for learning. He proudly served our country as a Marine, embodying the values of discipline and dedication throughout his life.

Cliff cherished his family above all else, sharing 67 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Judy. Together, they created a warm and loving home filled with laughter and joy. He is survived by his son, Barrett Porter Smith Sr.,his wife Neva Turano-Smith, along with their children, Barrett Porter Smith Jr. and Maria Elena Smith. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristin Leigh Smith. Cliff's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family who loved him dearly.

A man of many interests, Cliff had a profound love for history and was an avid reader. His adventurous spirit led him to travel extensively, exploring new places and cultures. He found great joy in spending time camping and boating on Lake Chesdin, creating cherished memories with his family and friends. His loyal companion, Jeffrey, his beloved dog, along with his “granddog” Roxy were a constant source of joy and comfort in his life.

Cliff was a dedicated professional, beginning his career as an insurance salesperson before establishing his own plumbing company, Smith & Williams Plumbing. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all he did. After retirement he quickly moved back into the work force at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home. He cherished his time there very much. He was also deeply involved in his community, serving as a deacon and choir member at Matoaca Baptist Church. His civic engagement extended to his membership in the Freemasons and the Kiwanis Club, and American Legion where he made lasting friendships and contributed to the betterment of his community.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Cliff served on the volunteer rescue squad for 12 years, where he became one of the first cardiac technicians in the Tri-City area demonstrating his commitment to helping others in times of need. His passion for learning new things and his dedication to service were hallmarks of his character.

Cliff is preceded in death by his mother and father Mary and Everett Sr. (Buddy) Smith and his brother Jerry Smith, who he held dear in his heart. As we remember Cliff, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and a profound impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.

In honor of Cliff's memory, let us carry forward his legacy of love and service, cherishing the moments we shared and the lessons he imparted.
