Everett R. Spangler, 88, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away April 14, 2023. He was born on December 12, 1934, in Littlestown, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Janet (Feeser) Spangler. He was a 1952 graduate of Eichelberger High School in Hanover, Pennsylvania. He worked at Doubleday from 1953 until 1975 in Hanover as a machine operator and supervisor, and then supervised the Smithsburg and Cedar Lawn locations in Maryland until 1987. From 1987 until retirement in 2003, Everett owned and operated E&J Proofreading, which was a freelance proofreading business. When he was 20 years old, he built his first house and built his second house when he was 30. He had amazing skills and could fix almost anything.
He married his high school sweetheart Judy Brown in 1952. Together they shared two children, Michael and Jody. One of his great joys in life was hunting with his son, Mike. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his family water skiing and crabbing. Everett and Judy enjoyed 47 years of marriage until her passing in 1999. They enjoyed square dancing where they met their friends Cindy and Jerry Zeger. After Everett and Cindy's spouses passed away, they eventually married and enjoyed 23 years together. He was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather and treasured his relationship with them. Everett was well known for his smile and infectious laughter, even up until the last few days of his life.
Everett is survived by his wife, Cindy Spangler, daughter Jody (wife of Jamie) Boardman, daughter-in-law Kathy Spangler, stepchildren, Randy (husband of Catherine) Zeger and Ronda (wife of Bob) Ranalli. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Meredith (wife of Lawrence) Rife and Luke (husband of Romy) Boardman, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as a sister, Erma Price. In addition to his parents and his first wife Judy, Everett was preceded in death by his son Michael Spangler.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, with Pastors Bill Shank and Shawn Kipe officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Marburg Memorial Gardens in Hanover.
