It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Russell O. Stitely, age 76, on July 17, 2025. He was born March 21, 1949, in Chambersburg and was the son of the late Howard and Florence (Bercaw) Stitely.
Russell graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1967. He then served in the US Army from 1968 to 1971. He was employed by James River corporation for over 30 years. He then went on to work at Chambersburg Waste Paper Co and then Letterkenny Army Depot as a mechanic until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, he worked part-time for his brother George at Stitely's Meat Processing.
Russell was a member of Franklin Assembly of God church. He also belonged to American Legion Post 46 and the VFW of Chambersburg.
In his free time, he enjoyed cooking (he loved to make his delicious pumpkin rolls and deliver them to family and friends), working on cars and working outdoors.
He is survived by his two children, son, Michael Ray Stitely of Chambersburg, and daughter Michelle Renee Cook and husband, Terry of Chambersburg, two granddaughters, Taryn Cook and Kaycee Cook of Chambersburg as well as one great grandson Austin Fodor. He is also survived by seven brothers Richard, John, Charles, George, Kenneth, David and Paul and one sister Joann. He was proceeded in death by his parents and wife, Nancy Stitely.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11 AM at Kelso Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the service. Intermittent will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
