Obituary of Everett Dallas Womack
Everett Womack, 94, of Puyallup, WA passed away on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 at his residence surrounded by Family.
Born on May 2, 1929 in Dallas, TX, he was the son of Francis and Olive Womack. The family moved to Portland, OR when he was 10. He later lived in Olympia, Kent, Maple Valley and Puyallup.
Everett married Jolene (Jodi) Miller on September 7th, 1968 in Aberdeen, WA.
Everett joined the US Navy in 1951. He was assigned to the USS Edmonds, stationed at Pearl Harbor. During his initial tour he traveled to Midway, Guam, Iwo Jima, Yap, Ulithi, Chi Chi Jima, Diego Garcia and Kapingimaringi. Later as a member of the Navy Reserves, he was called back to active duty where he traveled to Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong. He was honorably discharged as Chief Petty Officer.
After leaving active duty, Everett remained in the Navy Reserves for many years, finally achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) which is one of the highest ranks available to enlisted members of the United States Navy. During those years, he also built a career working for the Washington Department of Transportation as an Electronics Technician. Here he received several accommodations for his achievements. He was proud of his accomplishments and loved to point out locations where he had worked. Having retired from the state, he stayed connected to his radio roots. As an amateur radio operator, he was assigned the call sign K7TIQ. He helped to maintain the W7WWI repeater. He participated annually in both the ARRL Field Day and he regularly went to the Mike and Key Swap Meet. He loved new tools and gadgets and acquired quite a few for himself and he gifted some to his children as well.
During retirement, Everett stayed active, working for the South Sound Auto Auction, where he enjoyed driving a variety of cars from local dealerships to the auction yard. He was also very involved with the Kent Lions Club, helping with Cornucopia Days and acting as treasurer for many years. Along with other honors over the years, he was awarded the Lion of the Year. In addition to his community involvement, he was also civic minded, working as a polling site attendant and eventually becoming a polling site manager.
Everett was a very social person, making friends everywhere he went. He was a known jokester with a twinkle in his eye and always had a witty comeback ready. He loved to play games like Cribbage, Bingo, Pinochle and Mexican Train dominoes and looked forward to trips to the local casinos. His grandchildren could count on him to attend all their sporting and school events. Throughout the past 30 years, you would often find a dog or two by his side, and he could frequently be heard asking–who is your little friend.
His faith was strong. No matter where he lived, he could be found Sunday mornings attending services. His journey took him to Kent Lutheran, Shepherd of the Valley, Pilgrim Lutheran and Peace Lutheran churches, where he always found a way to participate and give back to those around him.
Survivors include his wife, Jodi; a son Joe (Leah) Womack; daughters Glenda (Bill) Kincaid, Shelby (Rich) Ronnestad and Tricia (Ron) Littlefield Jr; and son-in-law Peter Gadinas along with his many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Everett was predeceased by his parents, brothers Robert and Frank, a sister Estella, a daughter Rhonda and grandchildren Trevor and Olivia.
Arrangements are being handled by Hill Funeral Home, Puyallup. Services are Tuesday, May 30th, at Peace Lutheran Church, Puyallup and include a viewing at 9am, service at 10am and internment at Tahoma National Cemetery with military honors at 1pm.
