Everlene Turner Reece, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Blairsville, Georgia, at the age of 90. She was born on May 14, 1935, in Bowdon, Georgia, on a 190-acre farm, and 1 of 12 children to the late Mr. Luny Monroe Turner and the late Mrs. Arrie Ann Williamson.
Everlene was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. One of her favorite memories was climbing the 100-year-old pecan tree on her family’s property. She was also proud of her early achievements, having been a member of the basketball team at Bowdon High School during her teenage years. Everlene had a distinguished career spanning 40 years with AT&T, as one of the original long distance switchboard operators during the era when the company was known as Southern Bell and BellSouth. Everlene dedicated herself to her work with unmatched commitment. She found immense pride in her accomplishments while she was there.
Yet, more than her impressive career, it was Everlene's relationships with her family and friends that defined her life. A woman of boundless love, she cherished spending time with her family, often exclaiming how her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. She loved her family with her ever-present strength and kindness. Her home was always filled with laughter, thanks to her good sense of humor and outgoing personality. She was an avid reader, holding the Bible as her favorite book. Everlene had an abiding faith in God, which was a huge part of her life. She also had a deep passion for cooking, especially her family’s favorite homemade biscuits.
In her later years, she married ‘the love of her life’ Hubert Reece in 1999 in Maggie Valley, NC. Besides their home in Douglasville, they had a place in Alabama they called their “little place near heaven”, where they did a lot of meditating and talking to God. Everlene and Hubert enjoyed each other’s company until their last years. Everlene’s legacy will live on in her four children, her five grand-children, and her two newest great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Everlene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hubert Jay Reece.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Tony (Karen) Bentley of Powder Springs, Georgia, Sandra (Hayes) Nordberg of Young Harris, Georgia, Nancy (Jeff) Kimberly of Peachtree City, Georgia, Del (Traci) Thompson of Villa Rica, Georgia; 3 siblings, Flossie Smith, Virginia King, and Bobby Turner; 5 grandchildren, Allison (Eric) Royston, Alexis Boddy, Grant Boddy, Molly Thompson, and Brandon Nordberg; and 2 great-grandchildren, James and Joanna Royston.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Georgia with Rev. Gene Fields officiating. Mrs. Everlene will be laid to rest at Sunrise Gardens of Memories in Douglasville, Georgia.
