James Larry Newborn, Sr.

James Larry Newborn, Sr., 86, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was born on March 28, 1939, the son of the late Amos Bullard Newborn and the late Sadie Aurora Eskew Newborn.

Jimmy led a life marked by hard work, humor, and a deep love for his family and passions.

Growing up as a farmer, he developed a strong work ethic that carried through his years as a carpenter, a profession he took great pride in.

Jimmy served his country valiantly in the United States Army, a testament to his spirit of service and dedication to something greater than himself. This experience shaped his character and deepened his faith, which he expressed throughout his life as a member of the Atlanta West Pentecostal Church of Lithia Springs. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through the ebbs and flows of life and providing him with a profound sense of purpose.

Jimmy had a zest for life that transcended his professional endeavors. He found joy in the simplicity of fishing, often spending peaceful afternoons by the water, where he felt most at one with nature. A man of many talents, he enjoyed music, particularly his guitar, often gracing family gatherings with melodies that resonated with laughter and joy.

With an infectious sense of humor, Jimmy brought joy to everyone around him. His comical nature made him a cherished figure among family and friends, where he was known not only for his skills but also for his ability to lighten the atmosphere and bring smiles to those he loved.

He will be remembered not only for his numerous contributions to his community as a skilled carpenter but also for the warmth and laughter he shared as a family man. His legacy lives on through the loving memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn J. Clay Newborn who passed on September 22, 2025 and his son, Steven Robert Newborn who passed on June 19, 2025; brothers, Jackie Franklin Newborn, Amos B. “Doc” Newborn, Jr., Bobby Eugene Newborn, and William “Bill” Newborn; and sisters, Flora Mae Newborn, Lucille Newborn, and Mary Jacobs.

He is survived by his daughters, Melissa “Lisa” Pharr and Jimmy Williams, and Barbara Jean Reynolds; and son, Jim Newborn; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at his home 2688 Legion lake Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135.

Jimmy will be sorely missed, but his spirit and the impact he made on those around him will continue to shine brightly in their hearts.
