Ralph Erwin Henry, Sr., 92, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born on December 17, 1933, the son of the late Charles Worth Henry and the late Mary Inez Roberts Henry.
Ralph was a lifelong employee of Fulton County, where he served as the Deputy Tax Commissioner for over 30 years. His tenure was marked by a commitment to his community and the public service that embodied his character.
Ralph was not only a devoted professional but also a multi-talented individual who embraced life's joys with an open heart. He graduated from Georgia State University, where he cultivated his love for knowledge and lifelong learning. A passionate sportsman, Ralph enjoyed fishing and had a deep-seated love for baseball. His talent on the field did not go unnoticed; he signed with the Cleveland Indians and played first base, showcasing his athletic prowess and competitive spirit.
In addition to his professional achievements and athletic endeavors, Ralph was a devoted Christian man who served as a minister, preaching at various churches throughout his life. His commitment to his faith influenced countless lives, as he offered guidance, compassion, and support to his community.
Ralph's military service in the United States Marine Corps exemplified his patriotism and commitment to his country. The values instilled during his service followed him throughout his life, shaping his character and inspiring those around him.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and compassion of Gentiva Hospice and Centerwell Home Health, whose support brought comfort during Ralph's final days.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Valeria Grider Henry who passed in 1995; grandson, Christopher Edwards; and sister, Wanda F. Woods.
He is survived by his daughters, Melanie (Dean) Edwards of Douglasville, GA, and Melisa (David) Silvey of Carrollton, GA; son, Ralph E. Henry, Jr. of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren, Johnny (Jamie) Edwards of Douglasville, GA, Thomas John Silvey of Carrollton, GA, and Lauren Silvey of Rome, GA; two great grandchildren, J. T. Edwards and Austin Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, GA with Chaplain Luke Pollack officiating.
Ralph leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and faith that will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, remembered for his warm spirit and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and his community.
