Ezrie Edward Wright

Ezrie Edward Wright was born on August 8, 1932 in Kingston, Jamaica,West Indies to Edison Edward Wright and Hilda Lilian Kerr. He was one of three children, His sister Dahlia (Cherry) Joshua survives him, while his sister Ducille Barrett Ashwood preceded him in death.

Affectionately known by many names-Ez, Bill, Dada, Pops, Father, Dad and Papi Lindo-Ezrie was a man deeply loved by all who knew him. In 1968, he migrated to New York City in pursuit of greater opportunities for his family, joining his beloved wife Gloria who migrated to the U.S. the year before. They were later joined by their children, Lincoln (deceased), Colin (deceased) and Lavern. Colene, their fourth child was later born in New York City.

Ezrie was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. Through reading, he became a self-taught handyman, always willing to fix, build or help wherever he could. He was known for his quiet strength, humor, generosity, steady wisdom and love for his family. Above all Ezrie lived a life grounded in his deep love for God.

Ezrie began his career at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City on July 30,1970, where he worked in HVAC/R for nearly 30 years before retiring on March 7, 1998. While living in Queens, NY, he was a devoted and longtime member of The First Reformed Church of Jamaica, where he served as a deacon. In 2002, Ezrie and Gloria relocated to Charlotte to be closer to their daughters Lavern and Colene. There he continued his walk of faith as a devoted member of East Calvary Baptist Church.

Ezrie Edward Wright transitioned from his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2026, surrounded by family. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Lavern Wright-Moore (Ray), Janice Anne Marie Brown, and Colene Teniesia Wright; six grandchildren; Felicia Brown (Richard), Cahtar Wright (Ciani), Aevry Wright (Janae), Doran Wright, Brenden Brown and Bradley Brown; seven great-grand children; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family members and close friends.

Ezrie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, friend, man of faith, and a steady presence whose life touched many. His legacy of love, service, and quiet strength will live on in all who were blessed to have known him.
