Fay Doris Kershner

Fay Doris Kershner, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, age 93, passed away peacefully in Chicago, IL surrounded by family on October 17, 2025. Fay grew up in Fremont, Michigan and was the youngest of five siblings. She attended Western Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Education in 1954. Later that year, Fay began teaching sixth grade in Rockford, Michigan. In 1957, Fay moved to Chicago, Illinois and was a teacher for Chicago Public Schools for over 25 years. She taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Fay had two children and 1 grandchild, whom she deeply loved. Fay lived in Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood for 50 years.
In retirement, Fay loved going to the Chicago Botanic Garden with family and was a member of Galter Life Center for 20 years. Fay enjoyed swimming and bike riding. She helped raise her granddaughter, Jennifer Stewart, and they went to many popular attractions in the Chicago area together. Fay also spent several winters in Florida with her sister, Mary Ellen Mickel.
Fay was kind, compassionate, and generous towards everyone she met. She was a wonderful person who touched many lives and lovingly cared for others. Fay will be greatly missed.
Fay is survived by her son, Ronald Kershner; granddaughter, Jennifer Stewart; and sister, Mary Ellen Mickel. Fay was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kershner, and siblings Hester Schulte, Freda Kunst, and Paul Splitstone.
A memorial service honoring Fay's life will be held on the fourth floor of The Carrington, 3501 Northeast Pkwy, Lincolnwood, IL on Saturday, November 8 at 11 am.
