Faye Goodwin ("Mama Faye"), wife of the late Floyd Ray Goodwin, Sr. and beloved member of the Greenville community, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. She was born on April 11, 1930, to the late Ernest Thompson and Essie Thompson Cooper in the Tucapau community of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Faye was a remarkable woman who faced adversity with resilience and determination. After the untimely death of her father, she helped provide for her younger siblings by working full-time in a textile mill while she attended Ford High School in Laurens and through her graduation from Parker High School in Greenville.
Faye embarked on a career in the floral industry, working alongside her mother at the family-owned Cooper's Florist. She eventually opened her own floral shop, All Occasions Florist. Her attention to detail and creative touch made her a sought-after florist in the community.
Faye's talents extended beyond the world of flowers, as she was known for creating beautiful wedding cakes and catering special events. She mastered sewing, ceramics, and any craft she set her mind to. Her dedication and passion were evident in every endeavor she pursued.
As a faithful member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church for 67 years, her strong spiritual devotion provided guidance and comfort throughout her life.
Faye enjoyed a loving and happy marriage to Ray, who took great pride in her accomplishments as a talented homemaker, mother, and businesswoman. They were married for 69 years and raised four wonderful children, Floyd Goodwin (Rita), Debbie Dill (Kent), Janet Bricker (Brodie), and Lisa Greene (Mark). Faye's grandchildren, Niki Peters (Tony), Jeremy Bricker (Welles), Justin Greene (Cristy), and Johnson Greene (fiancée Amber Garton), were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. She adored her great-grandchildren, Dillon Peters, Grace Peters, Maggie Rae Bricker, and Wyatt Bricker. Faye's extended family, including several nieces and nephews, also held a very special place in her heart. During the last two and a half years of her life, Faye was blessed with the tender care of her remarkable live-in caregiver, Carolyn Harris, who has truly become a member of the Goodwin family. Through her loyal devotion, Carolyn gave Faye the extraordinary gift of feeling completely safe while living out her days in the home she built with Ray.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Faye was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Jordan Clark, and her brothers, James Thompson and Gerald Kenneth Thompson.
The visitation to honor Faye's life will be held at Mountain Creek Baptist Church on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mountain Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, as a testament to Faye's unwavering faith and commitment to her church community.
Faye Goodwin's legacy will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her strength, kindness, and indomitable spirit will serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
