Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Thompson will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday morning, June 5, 2024, at Bassfield Baptist Church with interment following in the Bassfield Cemetery. Reverend Ken Roberts will officiate, assisted by Reverend Tom Jackson. Mrs. Thompson, age 94, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Friday, May 31, 2024, at her residence in Bassfield. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Thompson will also lie in state Wednesday morning, June 5, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 10:00 AM at Bassfield Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers; they include James Fagan, Doug Stein, Kevin Saulters, John David West, Scott Courtney and Chad Viniard.
Allen Faye Bass Thompson was born near Bassfield on August 22, 1929 to A.Q. Bass and Mattie Smith Bass. Her father died when she was only one year old and Mattie moved back to her family in the Red House community near Prentiss where her brother A. B. Smith operated a store. They lived there until Faye was fourteen. Her mother took a job as a telephone operator and they moved back to Bassfield, where she finished high school and later attended Pearl River Jr. College.
She married Joe B. Thompson June 19 1949, and went on to finish college at USM. Faye taught school for two years at Sumrall, then transferred to Bassfield where she taught history for seventeen years. She was a member of Bassfield Baptist Church, where she taught the Ruth Sunday School Class and was a member of the WMU. She enjoyed working for her church, her flowers, gardening, and being around family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Wanda) of Bassfield and Patrick of Prentiss; five grandchildren, Blake Thompson (Jenny), Sara Thompson McRaney (Kevin), Deidra Fagan, Drake Grant, Dakota Grant and nine great-grandchildren, Noah Cleveland, Hayden Thompson, Emily McRaney, Ethan McRaney, Kasion Grant, Kartley Grant, Kanon Grant, Kinlee Fagan, and Kylynn Entrican.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Joe B. Thompson; six sisters, Maude Bass, Ida DeForrest, Emma Shivers, Lillian Jared, twins-Lovie McDonald and Dovie Griffith and one brother, Houston Bass.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Care Service, especially Michelle Boleware Reid; caregivers, Andrea Daley Brown, Eddie Ruth Hathorn and Jackie Thompson; her nephew, Edward Bass, who visited almost every day, special friend and neighbor Norma Hennis; neighbor Lowery Saulters; her cousin, Lillian Ratcliff, Bettye Clark, Brother Ken Roberts and all those who brought food, those who served and her friends and relatives who made her last days better by visits and phone calls.
