Felia "Faye" Drake Obituary

Felia Mae Drake (McCoy), 83, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at her home in Wichita, Kansas, with her husband and family by her side.

Born on August 14, 1942, Felia—affectionately known as Faye—was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was defined by quiet strength, humility, and unwavering love for her family. She retired from Copeland after 27 years of dedicated service, but her true calling was in nurturing others – whether doting on her husband or delighting in the lives of her grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life.

‘Grandma Faye’ never missed a chance to brag about her grandchildren, celebrate their accomplishments, or simply enjoy their presence. To them, she was more than Grandma, she was a safe place, a source of wisdom, and a steady example of unconditional love. She was the babysitting GOAT, always ready with patience, laughter, and guidance, embodying the spirit of service before self.

Faye’s gentle nature and forgiving heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her Arkansas twang was as distinct as her warmth, and she had a special way of making everyone feel at home. Whether she was fishing with her husband, playing cards with her friends, crafting, solving puzzles, coloring, or sitting in her “his and her” recliner watching classic sitcoms from the ‘60s through the ‘80s or the Game Show Network, Faye found joy in life’s simple pleasures. But nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who brought light and meaning to her later years.

Faye and Walt were the love of each other’s lives – true soulmates who lived side by side through every chapter of life. Whether at home in their recliners with their beloved dog and tv blasting, out fishing in the quiet, or simply holding hands, they were a constant presence in one another’s lives. Their love was steady, enduring, and full of unspoken understanding – a rare kind of partnership. Faye was Walt’s heart, and he was hers, and that love remained as deep and true at the end as it was at the beginning.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Walter Drake; children: Tina New (Tim), Connie Lovitt (Jason), Richard Hurley, Cheryl Annen (Tom), Lisa Drake, and Corey Drake (Amanda); along with 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Wilma McCoy (McCarver); siblings Orin McCoy, Linda Steerman (McCoy), and Roy McCoy; her son Jerry Garrison; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service for Faye will be held Friday, October 10 th , 2025, at the Sedgwick County Park –Sunflower Shelter Building at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Family and friends are welcome to join us graveside or take time enjoy the park as Faye would have –watching squirrels, fishing, walking, playing on the playground, or napping – before rejoining us at 4:00 p.m. at the Sunflower Shelter Building for a Fish Fry Funeral Reception in celebration of her life.

May her memory live on in the laughter of her grandchildren and the love she poured so generously into her family. Flowers may be sent to Broadway Funeral Home. In addition to, or in lieu of flowers, side dishes are welcome for the Fish Fry Reception. Share condolences at www.cozine.com. Services by Cozine Memorial Group-Broadway Mortuary.
