Felice "Phil" LaMela

Felice (Phil) LaMela, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on August 16th, 1933, in New York City, Phil was the son of John Sr. and Mildred LaMela. He was happily married to the love of his life, Marina LaMela, for 64 years. Phil was the proud owner and president of LaMela Sanitation Service for over 55 years, a business he led with integrity and dedication.
Phil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. As the family patriarch, he embraced the role with great pride and unwavering devotion. Affectionately known as Poppy Phil, he was happiest when surrounded by his family-whether gathered around the table, sharing laughter and meals, or making memories on family vacations. He had a gift for humor and loved making others laugh.
An avid outdoorsman, Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he had the chance. He was deeply proud of his Italian heritage, which he honored through his love of gardening and his joy in cooking for family and friends.
Phil is survived by his children, Linda LaMela-Newman and John and Meredith LaMela; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Shawn Rhynehart, Michael Newman and fiancée Nicole Boyles, Kristina LaMela and her boyfriend, Ryan Bollin, and Erica LaMela and her boyfriend, Tyler Cardinale; and his great-grandchildren, Grace Rhynehart and Riley Rhynehart.
He is also lovingly remembered by those who cared for him with incredible dedication-his daughter-in-law, Meredith LaMela, Yulia Wright, and Luciane Price. Their compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment brought great comfort to Poppy Phil in his final years, and the family is deeply grateful for the love and care they provided.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12th. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY 12542, followed by a burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh, NY 12550.
