Felipe Abat, lovingly known as "Ping," was born on February 5, 1932, in Manila, Philippines. He peacefully passed away on October 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in New York. He was the cherished son of Hipolito and Rosa Abat, both of whom preceded him in death.
Felipe completed his Bachelor's degree in Education at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. His passion for teaching led him to Basilan City High School, where he inspired countless students in his Economics classes. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Milagros Rivera Abat. They were united in marriage on December 20, 1964, and together they raised a beautiful family in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.
Ping will be remembered for his extraordinary sacrifices and unwavering dedication to his family. He made it his life's mission to ensure that his loved ones were always cared for, placing their needs above his own. His kindness, wisdom, and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Felipe is survived by his beloved wife, Milagros, their children, Joseph Michael Abat, and Geraldine Rivera Abat. He is survived by his brother Rodolfo Abat, stepbrother Benjamin Abat, and stepsister Evelyn Abat-Marilao. He has many siblings, along with many family members both in the Philippines and the United States. Together, they carry forward his legacy of love and devotion, kindness and humor.
Visitation will be held on October 8th from 4 PM to 8 PM at The Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc., located at 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805.
A Mass in his honor will take place on Wednesday, October 9th, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at The Blessed Sacrament Church, 15 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805. Following the Mass, a private service will be held for family at The Woodlawn Crematory.
