Fenton Towe Eure, Jr., 81, of Greenhall Road, Edenton, NC passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton, NC.
Mr. Eure was born on August 15, 1943 in Perquimans County to Fenton Towe Eure, Sr. and Lillie Belle Trueblood Eure. He graduated from Perquimans County High School in 1961. He married Margie Corprew Eure on June 7, 1964.
He grew up in Berea Church of Christ and moved his membership to Rocky Hock after moving to Edenton in 1982. He served on many Church committees and served as a Deacon at both Berea and Rocky Hock.
He loved Ruritans, a community service organization, and was a past member of Durants Neck Ruritan Club and Advance Ruritan Club. He was a current member of Rocky Hock Ruritan Club. He served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, District Governor and National Director during his more than 60 years with the Ruritans.
He served on the Board of Directors of Perquimans Chamber of Commerce, Hertford Savings Bank, Albemarle Cotton Growers, Cotton Growers Cooperative, NC Soybean Growers and served on the Chowan County Extension Advisory Council. He loved farming, farmers and farm related people.
He is predeceased by his parents; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Eure; his brother, Garland Eure and wife, Sadie; his sister, Margaret Chappell; and brother-in-law, Julian Harrell.
In addition to his wife, Margie, he is survived by his son, Fenton Towe Eure, III and friend, Melody, his daughter, Amy Eure Floyd and husband, Dodd, both of Edenton. His bonus daughter, Bethany Payne and husband, Bo of Pooler, GA. His grandchildren, Towe Eure and wife, Allison, Caroline Eure Farmer and husband, Adam, both of Edenton, Matt Floyd and wife, Taylor and Jon Floyd and wife, Haley, both of Tyner. His bonus grandson, Daniel Payne and wife, Jessie of Utah. The lights of his life, his seven great grandchildren, Sydney Eure, Fenlee Eure and Ainsley Farmer, all of Edenton and Aubrey Floyd, Evelyn Floyd, L.J. Floyd and Jon Henry Floyd all of Tyner. His sister, Carolyn Harrell of Hertford. His brothers-in-law, Ronnie Chappell of Elizabeth City and Johnny Corprew and wife, Mary of Hertford, and sister-in-law Amanda Harrell and husband, Fahey of Elizabeth City, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10 , 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Dupuy and Rev. Trey Rogers officiating. A private burial will follow in the Eure Family Cemetery, Edenton, NC
