Ferdinand J. Moebus Jr. of Manchester, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday August 15, 2024 at the age of 92 surrounded by his family. Born in Jackson Heights, Long Island, NY and raised in Roselle, NJ and thriving in Bailey Island, ME during the summers, Ferdinand, fondly referred to as Fred, joined the US Navy at age 19 where he proudly served his country from 1951-1955. It was while stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba that Fred made additional life changing decisions; marrying Florence Caroline Mach in 1957 and enrolling in Texas A&M University. As a loving couple, they raised their four children; William, Kenneth, Maryann, and Carolyn in North Brunswick, NJ. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Caroline Moebus, his parents Ferdinand Joseph Moebus, Sr. and Josephine Moebus, and sister Barbara Ann Doyle.
All who have met Fred will agree he had a deep profound love of family, friends and community. His joyful zest for life and passion for fishing, boating, hiking, camping and woodworking was openly shared with those around him. It was these personal qualities that made him a successful teacher. Fred earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts from Texas A&M University, then a Master of Science in Education from Trenton State College. He had a positive impact on many students during his 34-year tenure teaching at Deerfield Middle School in Mountainside, NJ before retiring in 1993, but his influence was not limited to the classroom. Through his various roles with the Boy Scouts of America, an Explorer Post Outdoor Club Leader, and years of providing occupational mentorship and apprenticeship activities, Fred touched and successfully influenced many people's lives. His legacy extends far beyond family boundaries.
Fred married his second wife, Katherine M. Reimann ("Kathy"), in 1985 blending the Moebus children (William, Kenneth, Maryann, and Carolyn) and Reimann children (Katherine, Kenneth, Karen, and Keith) into a single family unit before moving to their bayside home in Brick, NJ. Forced to relocate inland by Hurricane Sandy, Fred and Kathy moved to Manchester, NJ in 2012 where he continued to enjoy retirement with family, friends, boating & fishing, dancing, ocean cruising, savoring a good meal, participating in church charities, the Elk Club, and watching Texas A&M football.
Fred is survived by his wife Kathy Moebus, his children; William Gerard Moebus (Debra), Kenneth Joseph Moebus (Julie), Maryann Moebus Egli (Peter) and Carolyn Moebus Primiano (Robert), and Kathy's children; Kathryn Reimann, Kenneth Reimann, Jr. (Linda), Karen R. Hughes, and Keith Reimann (Barbara), and 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom benefitted from his big heart and devotion to family.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Fred will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 11:00 am followed by a Catholic Service at 11:30 am at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ.
