Good evening. It is with a profound mix of sorrow and celebration that we share the news of the passing of Ferdinand Jose Oquendo, known affectionately to all as Jose. Born on February 19, 1996, in New Haven, Connecticut, Jose lived a life marked by warmth, intelligence, and a spirit of friendship that drew people to him wherever he went. His journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on March 13, 2025, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
To his family, Jose was a beacon of love and support. He leaves behind a legacy through his mother, Delia Cancel, his brother, David Oquendo, his aunt Katy Hernandez and his father, Ferdinand Oquendo Jr., as well as his cherished daughter, Josily Oquendo, who was the apple of his eye. Each of them treasured Jose for his kindness and his inexhaustible capacity to care.
Jose's professional life was as a dedicated truck driver for Waste Management, where his reliability and strong work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues and the wider community. He approached his work with a sense of responsibility and pride, ensuring that every task was completed to the best of his ability.
Away from work, Jose's passions were diverse and brought him much joy. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, finding freedom and thrill on the open road. Video games offered him an escape into other worlds, while music provided a soundtrack to his life's adventures. And for Jose, cars were not just a mode of transport but objects of beauty and engineering to be admired and discussed at length with friends.
Speaking of friends, Jose's life was enriched by the presence of many, including Delvi, Gabriel, Malik, and Brandon, Isaiah and Randy. Each friend played a part in the tapestry of his life, sharing adventures, laughter, and memories that are now held dear.
Described by those who knew him as loving, intelligent, and friendly, Jose made a lasting impact on every life he touched. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Tonight, we honor the memory of Jose, a man who lived life fully, with open arms and a generous heart. May his story continue to inspire and his memory be a comfort to all who mourn his passing.
