Fern Asborno Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 18, 2011.
Dear Family and Friends, I am going to tip toe down memory lane to tell you all about myself and my family, and this is the way it started. I was born June 18, 1913. My name is Fernanda Matilde Giorgi. My parents were Matilde Ferrari and Giovanni Giorgi – Italian Immigrants from the village of Corfino, Italy. My sister Giovanna was also born in Italy. My brothers Albert, Henry and I were born at 212 W. Lafayette St. Stockton. I lived there until 1944. I graduated from the College of Commerce in 1929 at the age of 16. I became a Bookkeeper- Secretary. My first job was with Triolo Trucking, then Piccardo Produce, and Peffers Furniture and Radios. At 20 years old, in 1933, I took my first voyage on the Conti di Savoy to Corfino, Italy with my mother and the Angelina Family. We stayed one year, reunited with our families. We ventured throughout Italy. A once in a lifetime journey. In 1941, I met the man of my dreams, Mario “Tamale Asborno-- tall, dark and handsome. One dance and I was swept off my feet. We married in 1942 and had 56 years together. In 1944, we moved into our home at 845 N. Golden Gate Ave. until 2005. I am so thankful that my life was blessed with four wonderful daughters. Thank you girls for being such beautiful, loving, sharing, giving, caring daughters. I am so lucky. My daughters, Marlena (Rick) Henning, Giorgina (Jerry) Swanson, Vicky (Kevin) Sage, Virginia (Jerry) Larsen, gave me 8 adoring grandchildren, Brian Swanson, Gina (Bryan) Robledo, Stephanie (Jon) Skaggs, Danny (Tammy) Swanson, Julie (Phil) Ramirez, Ryan (Amy) Meineke, Laura (Dean) Petrulakas, and Allan Henning, and 17 precious great grandchildren. I made 10 miraculous trips to Corfino, Italy with my family from 74 years old to my last at 96 years old. An amazing memorable journey that filled my heart. The loss of my dearest niece, my dearheart Rosie Ferrari Vierra filled my life with the most cherished love and devotion. She was my strength and soul mate. Her devotion is carried on by her precious daughter Christine Brandstad. I am so grateful that my life was blessed with such family and friends. Having these memories in my heart is the greatest blessing and joy I could ever have. May God bless you with special love and happiness and everything good to all of your loved ones. Thanks for everything. With all my love, appreciation, thankfulness, (Signed ) FERN ASBORNO MAMA XO LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY. The family wishes to thank her devoted caregivers Jeannie Nordstrand, Mica and Marylee. Fern was a proud member of the Druids Evergreen Circle #15, and a Election Board Official. Fern was captivating; she could have your attention with her Giorgi blue eyes and a wink. Fern loved music and dancing. She had a sweet voice, and a whimsical personality, was always telling jokes, was a fabulous cook, and was a whiz with math and numbers. She was known for her April Violet Perfume, her shopping and talking on the phone, and her monetary generosity. She had an amazing thoughtful spirit. She was the most loving, caring, generous, talented, beautiful person. She made a friend everywhere she went. Precious to all. Mama, you will be forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers daily. Our lives will never be the same without you. Tante Mille Grazi. Happy 98th Birthday!
