Madawaska--- Fernande M. Cornell, 97, passed away peacefully July 9, 2025, at a Madawaska healthcare facility. She was born April 26, 1928, in Ste-Anne de Madawaska, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Oneil and Alma (Cyr) Martin.
Fernande worked many years as a clerk for the former Rexall Pharmacy, Madawaska. She was an avid shopper and could spend countless hours browsing the many stores and shops in the St. John Valley. Fernande was best known for her selfless and kind heart and never hesitated to assist someone in need. She adored her family and cherished the many memories they created together.
Fernande was saved by grace on Tuesday January 31, 1984, at age 56. She enjoyed singing hymns and reading her Bible.
She is survived by two children, Robert N. Cornell and his wife Chantal of St. Jacques, NB, and Jim Cornell and his wife Jan of Enfield, CT; two sisters, Theresa Lee of Madawaska, and Edmee Ross and her husband Azarie of Pigeon Hill, NB; two brothers, Roland Martin and his wife Iris of St-Basile, NB, and Leonce Martin and his wife Berna of Edmundston, NB; three grandchildren, Jesse, Robby and Jennifer; six great grandchildren, Gina, Nikki, Justin, Alex, Ethan, and Josh; four great-great grandchildren, Ava, Carson, Bailey and SJ; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Fernande was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert H. Cornell, and five siblings, Betty Hutchings, Cyr Martin, Maurice Martin, Neil Martin, and Ghislaine Dube.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Madawaska Gospel Church, 125 25th Ave., Madawaska. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Madawaska. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska.
