Fernando V. Couto, 74, of Fall River, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Saint Anne's Hospital, in Fall River, surrounded by his family.
He was the loving husband of Maria Eugenia (Correia) Couto, to whom he was married for 50 years.
Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Gil Couto and the late Serafina (Marques) Couto. Before immigrating to the United States, he was a veteran of the Portuguese Army, having served in Guinea.
Prior to retiring, Fernando worked as an ironworker for most of his career. He was a true jack of all trades who found joy in many pursuits. He enjoyed woodworking and landscaping, and was always working on projects around the house. Fernando treasured spending time with his family and also fishing with his son, Kevin.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children Diane Perry and Kevin Couto (wife Brandi); his sister Luzia Lima; his grandchildren Tyler Perry, Fallon Perry, Noah Couto, and Giuliana Couto; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Jerimias Couto, Nicola Couto, Irene Aguiar, and Venilde Couto.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 22 from 5 to 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home at 215 Columbia Street in Fall River.
His funeral will be held Friday May 23, at 8 AM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Santo Christo Church. Interment will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
