October 28, 1939 - September 29, 2025
Fernando Figueroa, 85, of Apple Valley, MN passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025.
He was born in Lima, Peru on October 28, 1939, to Alejandro and Lucia Figueroa. After high school, Fernando's ambition led him to the United States to attend Kansas State University where he met the love of his life, Sharilyn. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure in Minnesota. They were married for 62 years.
Fernando spent most of his career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a civil engineer specializing in bridge design. After he retired, he worked for Byerly's as a grocery bagger. He loved people so it was the perfect job for him. In his later years, Fernando gave his time generously, volunteering as a patient transporter at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN.
Fernando had a zest for life. He found joy in cycling, traveling, and especially dancing to Latin music. He was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in others - qualities that made him beloved by friends, neighbors, and colleagues alike.
Above all, Fernando was a devoted husband and family man. He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, Sharilyn, and was a proud and caring father to his daughter, Diana (Mike) and his son, Dan (Brooke). He is also survived by his five grandchildren Christina (AJ), Megan (John), Jacob, Aaron and Zachary; 2 great grandchildren Angelo and Enzo; brother-in-law David (Alta) and niece Angela (Alex).
His warmth, humor, and love of life touched everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on in the bridges he built, both literal and metaphorical, and in the hearts of those who carry his memory forward.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Greenwood & Myers Mortuary, 2969 Baseline Rd, Boulder, CO 80303 at 4:00 pm MST.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
